Charles Beaver Curo & Shirley Curo

We are pleased to honor Charles Beaver Curo and Shirley Curo as our Legacy Honoree for the 2010 Promise Ball. The Legacy Honoree is a special recognition for grandparents who have poured their time, resources and love in to finding a cure for their grandchild with diabetes.

Charles and Shirley have been supporting their grandson, Bear, since he was diagnosed eight years ago at the age of 6. The family participates in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes and attends the Promise Ball every year. In addition to being personally generous, Charles and Shirley have been JDRF Champions in the Barona community, rallying support for Bear and JDRF. As the Vice Chairman of the Tribal Council for the Barona Band of Mission Indians, Charles helped to establish Barona as a strong community partner of JDRF resulting in the Barona Band of Mission Indians sponsoring the Walk to Cure Diabetes and the Promise Ball on an annual basis.

Charles and Shirley grew up on the Barona reservation and have been married for 40 years. Thank you to our 2010 Legacy Honorees for their dedication to finding a cure for their grandson and all the other children living with type 1 diabetes.
